Two goals each from Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo saw Real Madrid take a 6-1 victory from their Champions League last 16 first-leg trip to Schalke.
Benzema put Real ahead in the 13th minute when he fired home from 12 yards after good work from Ronaldo and Bale, who netted a brilliant second for the La Liga leaders eight minutes later.
The Welshman cut in from the right and weaved through three challenges before toe-poking the ball past Ralf Fahrmann.
Ronaldo added a superb third for Real seven minutes into the second half when he took Bale's pass before bamboozling a Schalke defender with three stepovers and firing a low shot into the far corner.
Benzema then notched his second in the 57th minute before Bale bagged Real's fifth by bursting on to Sergio Ramos' split pass to beat Fahrman with a side-footed finish.
Benzema then fed Ronaldo in the 89th minute for the Portuguese star to net Real's sixth before Jan Klass Huntelaar scored a stunning consolation volley in added time.
Barring a miraculous turn around in the Bernabeu, Carlo Ancelotti's side will seal a quarter-final place when Schalke arrive in Madrid for the second leg on March 18.
